I am an artist whose contemporary art work is immediately recognisable and includes paintings, wall hangings, public art installations and rugs.

My approach is abstract but the work is very much rooted in the natural world. It is a bout finding a visual expression for the energy which underpins nature.

What makes my work unique is my intuitive and assured understanding of colour. Described by Fintan O’Toole in an Irish Times article as dazzling, exhilarating colour is my signature and visual language. I am in love with the properties of light as perceived through the colour spectrum and my vibrant, highly desirable work exudes that energy. Mixed media, acrylic paint, dye, pigments and constructed collage are used to build up multiple layers of sensual colour creating glowing works that makes the heart sing.

I attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin where I studied painting, print and textiles. Having completed many large scale public commissions, my work is held in many public corporate and private collections.

Artist Statement

I am inspired by an eclectic variety of things. It is a feeling of noticing something intensely and being transfixed by it. It could be an idea, something I observe in the landscape, even something that I read about or see on TV. Mostly it is connected with the patterns of nature that I see around me and how they change all the time and yet have a sameness and consistency. I am intrigued by this apparent contradiction, the idea of the cycle of time that we call the seasons and years, that is constant and unchanging, yet is ever changing. It about us humans being awed by the primeval forces of nature which can inspire, sustain and overwhelm us.

While I make observational drawings of the landscape, I am not interested in “capturing a scene” or a moment in time in paint. I am interested in the idea of the energy which underlies that combination of light, gravity, weather and human and animal interaction through time that has forged that moment.
